Fast, Effective Sick Visit Care

Don't Let Sudden Illness Disrupt Your Life

A sudden fever, painful urinary tract infection, persistent cough, or unexpected stomach pain can derail your entire day — or week. Many people assume they need to head to the emergency room, but for most acute illnesses, urgent care at your primary care clinic is faster, more affordable, and just as effective.

At Patel Primary Care, Dr. Reenaben Patel treats the acute conditions that bring patients in unexpectedly: respiratory infections like bronchitis and pneumonia, urinary tract and ear infections, digestive issues, and minor injuries. Same-day appointments are our priority for sick visits, and we welcome walk-ins during office hours.

You get prompt evaluation, rapid testing when needed, effective treatment recommendations, and follow-up care — all in one place. No emergency room wait. No unnecessary anxiety. Just good primary care when you need it most.

Infections We Treat

Rapid Diagnosis & Effective Treatment for Common Infections

Most acute infections can be identified and treated the same day with a quick exam and rapid tests. Dr. Patel uses evidence-based protocols to confirm the cause and prescribe treatment only when needed.

Bronchitis (Acute)

Persistent cough, chest discomfort, and mucus production after a cold. We assess whether your bronchitis is viral or bacterial, and recommend appropriate treatment to help you breathe easier and recover faster.

Pneumonia

Shortness of breath, high fever, and chest pain can signal pneumonia. We perform a chest exam, check oxygen levels, and order imaging if needed. Early diagnosis and treatment prevent serious complications.

Urinary Tract Infections (UTI)

Painful urination, urgency, and pelvic discomfort are classic UTI signs. A urine culture confirms diagnosis and guides antibiotic selection. We can treat uncomplicated UTI and refer complex cases appropriately.

Skin Infections (Cellulitis)

Red, warm, swollen skin may indicate cellulitis or abscess. We assess the severity, culture if needed, and prescribe antibiotics or recommend drainage. Prompt treatment stops the infection from spreading.

Ear Infections

Ear pain, drainage, and hearing difficulty often point to middle or outer ear infection. We examine your ear canal and tympanum, identify the cause, and treat with medication or supportive care.

Sinus Infections

Facial pressure, nasal congestion, and post-nasal drip from sinusitis are miserable. We assess whether you need antibiotics or decongestants, and provide practical relief strategies to clear your sinuses.

Gastrointestinal & Other Acute Conditions

Stomach Pain, Nausea, and More — Same-Day Relief

Sudden digestive upset, unexplained rashes, and minor injuries need prompt attention too. We diagnose the cause and get you feeling better quickly.

Stomach Pain, Nausea & Vomiting

Abdominal pain ranges from mild discomfort to concerning emergency. We examine your abdomen, assess your symptoms, and determine whether home care, medication, or urgent imaging is needed.

Diarrhea & Food Poisoning

Acute diarrhea can quickly lead to dehydration. We assess severity, check for signs of serious illness, recommend hydration and diet strategies, and prescribe medications if appropriate.

Acid Reflux Flares

Sudden heartburn and chest discomfort can alarm patients. We distinguish reflux from cardiac pain, provide quick relief with antacids or H2 blockers, and address triggers.

Minor Injuries (Sprains, Strains, Cuts)

Twisted ankles, muscle strains, and minor lacerations respond well to primary care. We assess the injury, recommend RICE protocol, prescribe pain relief, and rule out fractures.

Rashes & Skin Irritations

Sudden rashes can be viral, allergic, or infectious. Dr. Patel examines the rash, takes a focused history, and recommends appropriate treatment — topical, oral, or supportive care.

Headaches & Migraines

Sudden severe headache or a new pattern of migraines warrants evaluation. We check vital signs, perform a neurological exam, and provide acute relief and preventive strategies.

Getting Started

What to Expect at Your Sick Visit

A good acute care visit is efficient and thorough. Here's what happens when you come in with a sudden illness or injury.

Your Sick Visit Appointment

Focused physical exam tailored to your symptoms — vital signs, targeted inspection, palpation, auscultation
Rapid tests if indicated — urinalysis for UTI, throat swab for strep, chest exam for pneumonia, wound assessment
Clear explanation of what's happening and why — Dr. Patel reviews findings and discusses next steps
Treatment plan — antibiotics if bacterial infection, symptomatic care, rest recommendations, follow-up timing
Walk-ins are welcome. Call ahead if possible so we can prioritize your appointment.

Follow-Up & When to Return

We provide clear instructions for home care — hydration, rest, when to take medication, what to avoid
Follow-up plan — when to return for recheck, how to report worsening symptoms, when to seek ER care
Prescription management — we send prescriptions directly to your pharmacy; ask about generic options to save money
Red flags — we explain warning signs that warrant immediate ER evaluation
Most acute visits take 30–45 minutes from check-in to discharge.
Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Acute Care

Do you accept walk-in appointments for sick visits?
Yes, Patel Primary Care welcomes walk-in patients for acute illness and injuries during our regular office hours (Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM). If you call ahead at 951-696-5837, we can often fit you in the same day or find an urgent slot. For non-life-threatening emergencies, a same-day sick visit with Dr. Patel is faster than the emergency room.
When should I go to the ER instead of seeing my primary care doctor?
Seek emergency care if you experience: chest pain or pressure, difficulty breathing, loss of consciousness, severe bleeding, signs of stroke (facial drooping, arm weakness, speech difficulty), severe allergic reactions, or severe injuries from trauma. For fever, cough, stomach pain, UTI symptoms, and sprains, primary care is usually the better choice.
Can you see me the same day for a sick visit?
Yes. We reserve slots each day for acute illness appointments. Call 951-696-5837 as soon as you feel ill, and we'll do our best to get you in the same day. If we're fully booked, we can often schedule you for the next morning or discuss your symptoms over the phone and recommend urgent care if needed.
What should I bring to a sick visit?
Please bring: a photo ID and insurance card, a list of any current medications and allergies, any recent lab work or medical records, and information about when your symptoms started and what they feel like. If you have a sore throat, we'll test it. If you have respiratory symptoms, we may do a rapid flu or COVID test.
Does Dr. Patel prescribe antibiotics for infections?
Dr. Patel prescribes antibiotics when medically appropriate based on the cause of your infection. For bacterial infections like UTI, strep throat, or bacterial pneumonia, antibiotics are often necessary. For viral infections like most colds and flu, antibiotics won't help, but Dr. Patel will recommend supportive care and symptom management to help you feel better faster.
